چکیده

The purpose of the study is to assess the selectivity of intradural peripheral nerve activation in primates using a multiple contact cuff electrode. The cuff electrode consisted of four platinum contacts and was implanted around ventral nerve root L5 in the cauda equina. A constant current stimulator delivered single biphasic stimulation pulses. Four monopolar (using a surface indifferent anode) and bipolar electrode configurations (using two opposite contacts within the electrode) were tested. Electromyography (EMG) of four lower limb muscle groups was recorded. Current intensity was increased until saturation of all muscle responses was achieved. Rectified integrated EMG was normalised and plotted against current intensity to construct recruitment curves. Preliminary results show poor selectivity using monopolar as well as bipolar electrode configurations. It is concluded that no selectivity could be shown in this preliminary trial.

Effect of Selective Home-Based Exercises on Chronic Low Back Pain in Unilateral Below Knee Amputees

Aims: Different studies have shown different effects of exercise on low back pain. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of selective home-based exercises on chronic low back pain in unilateral below knee amputees. Materials and Methods: In this randomized controlled clinical trial with pretest-posttest design conducted in 2016, 53 unilateral below knee amputees with chronic lo...

P 32: The Role of CB2 Activation in Rats Under Harmaline Toxicity

Introduction: β-carbolines are shown to have significant anti-inflammatory effect via the inhibition of some inflammatory mediators including TNF-α and PGE2. In previous studies Purkinje cell deterioration have been proposed the dominant pathogenesis of harmaline toxicity. WIN55, 212-2 is a non-selective cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptor agonist. Combination of WIN55, 212-2 ...

α-Melanocyte stimulating hormone promotes muscle glucose uptake via melanocortin 5 receptors

OBJECTIVE Central melanocortin pathways are well-established regulators of energy balance. However, scant data exist about the role of systemic melanocortin peptides. We set out to determine if peripheral α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) plays a role in glucose homeostasis and tested the hypothesis that the pituitary is able to sense a physiological increase in circulating glucose and r...

Patterns of variation across primates in jaw-muscle electromyography during mastication.

Biologists that study mammals continue to discuss the evolution of and functional variation in jaw-muscle activity during chewing. A major barrier to addressing these issues is collecting sufficient in vivo data to adequately capture neuromuscular variation in a clade. We combine data on jaw-muscle electromyography (EMG) collected during mastication from 14 species of primates and one of treesh...

Is Abdominal Muscle Activity Different from Lumbar Muscle Activity during Four-Point Kneeling?

Background: Stabilization exercises can improve the performance of trunk and back muscles, which are effective in the prevention and treatment of low back pain. The four-point kneeling exercise is one of the most common types of stabilization exercises. This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate and compare the level of activation between abdominal and lumbar muscles in the different stage...
